Toss the Sewing Machine; 3D Textiles are Making Their Entrance

As someone who has always been only mediocre when it comes to navigating the never-ending capabilities of my fancy-pants sewing machine, I thought it was pretty darn cool to stumble upon Freedom of Creation‘s 3D Printing Process. Yep, you heard me right. An enormous contraption it may be but it does, in fact, print out 3 dimensional textiles. Currently, the machine used to create these textiles is probably bigger than my Hoboken apartment and the only materials it is able to produce are rubber, plastic, and metal but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still extremely amazing. All technology has to start somewhere, right? I imagine within the next few years, we’ll be downloading apps to our smartphones and creating our own 3D garments.
