Fashion Business Owner Musings: Do Your Best to Focus on What Matters

As fashion business owners, all of the things that we have to do just to keep our businesses running, let alone thriving, can feel overwhelming and never-ending.

We accept this because we knew it would be a lot of work but it feels worth it to us. We love our businesses.

But just because we love what we do, doesn’t mean that it isn’t absolutely exhausting sometimes. It doesn’t mean that we aren’t at times feeling wiped out and behind on our to-do lists.

I used to constantly feel like I was scrambling to get it all done; I would try my hardest to make sure nothing got forgotten.

But then I realized that the reason I was so exhausted and constantly scrambling was that I didn’t have any real focus.

I was doing work, lots of work, but not focused work.

And that’s a problem.

The key to growing a business is knowing where to focus your time.

Do your best everyday to focus on what matters in your fashion business, based on where you are in the journey, and the rest of the things that crowd your to-do list, need to be let go.

Try not to allow yourself to get swept up in all the little things that blur your focus and hold you back.

I’m not saying this is easy.

After all, small businesses are a lot of work, and when there’s no team to get stuff done, what’s the alternative?

I get that.

But I’m going to push back here. What kind of mindset work do you need to do to help you improve your focus?

Are you a perfectionist, keeping at things for much longer than you need to?

Are you experiencing FOMO, not wanting to be the only one not using TikTok?

What is keeping you from focusing on the most important things for business growth and releasing the rest?

This is important because once burn-out settles in, your fashion business starts to become a drain on your life; it becomes something you have to do instead of something you love to do.

And that would be so unfortunate.

The next time you’re feeling so exhausted that you can’t imagine doing one more thing, take a moment to reflect on the work you’re doing and ask yourself, how can I improve my focus and eliminate the exhausting distractions?

How can I make sure that I’m not losing all my energy to work that doesn’t directly impact the growth of my business? What do I need to do to focus on what’s important and release what isn’t?

Lots of love and encouragement,
