It’s 2 o’clock on Monday morning and I cannot shut my brain off. You know those nights; the more you try to sleep, the more you’re wide awake. It’ driving me crazy because I really want to be sleeping right now.
So, of course, while tossing and twisting and flipping around in bed, I start to think about why I can’t sleep. What am I doing to prevent myself from drifting off and getting some much-needed zzzz? The answer: A lot of things.
Apparently, I have no one but myself to blame for this little (huge, actually) issue.
Anyway, if I’m dealing with this, I’m willing to bet a lot of you are as well. So what do you do when the pressures of your fashion business keep you up at night?
How to Shut Off Your Brain When Your Fashion Business Keeps You Up All Night
Your Phone
Problem: Checking emails and Instagram from bed can be an addiction.
Solution: Put your phone outside of arm’s reach.
Your Brilliant Ideas
Problem: You’re coming up with all kind of amazing ideas and making mental note of several to-dos.
Solution: A little notebook and pen on the nightstand will do wonders for getting things out of your head and into a list.
No Downtime
Problem: You’re going from working in your studio or working on your computer, straight to bed. There is no time to unwind.
Solution: Stop working an hour earlier than usual and spend some time relaxing before heading to bed.
The Pressure
Problem: The more you look at the clock, the more you start freaking out because you have to wake up in 6hrs….5hrs…4hr, 38minutes.
Solution: Take the pressure off. Allow yourself to sleep in a little (assuming you have no meetings) and don’t force yourself to wake up at your normal 7am, when you haven’t managed to finally conk out until 2am.
Not Embracing It
Problem: So many things running through your head that your brain actually hurts.
Solution: Then think about it. Let the thoughts come into your head, process them, and tell yourself that you will carve out some time tomorrow to address and solve them.
So, what are your thoughts? How do you shut off your brain when business keeps you tossing and turning. Let me know in the comments below!

I would also add meditating to this list. Just taking 5 minutes during the day to relax and meditate often helps too.
