The idea that vacation and work could go hand in hand is a strange one, right? I mean, when I am about to set out on a relaxing vacation the last thing I want to think about is my to-do list and email inbox. But that’s not the kind of work I’m talking about. What I am suggesting is a holiday spent immersed in the world of textiles.
I’m honestly not sure how I came to hear of this, but I am so very glad that I did. Textile Holiday Tours is a company based in the United Kingdom that hosts tours of the country’s rich history in textiles. You are given the opportunity to discover, appreciate and be inspired by historic and contemporary fabrics, in stately homes, churches, cathedrals, castles, cottages and studios across the UK. That’s quite an adventure. I mean, think about it. We will spend hours upon hours sitting in the textile archives of a university, clicking from one online fabric design research tool to the next, and visiting countless industry trade shows so why not take our researching, get hands on, and have some fun with it? I realize I’m a bit of a nerd who is hopelessly in love with all things textile but you have to admit, this is pretty cool.
