Tonight, while doing a little online exploring, I quite happily came across a textile designer whose work sparked a lot of interest from me. Aleksandra Gaca is a weaver who seems thrive on dimensional design. Her work is structural yet soft, three dimensional , architectural , and just plain beautiful. Her broad use of materials, from soft mohair to super strong mono-filament, as well as her cross over from fashion to commercial and back again, make her work accessible to everyone. If you don’t believe me, you can check out a list of companies that have already been lucky enough to work with her.
Why am I telling you all of this? Well, besides the obvious delight you must feel at being introduced to such an innovative designer, you should be thrilled to learn that she is is often hired on for special projects by various companies around the world. Think about this for a second. You have an idea, you have a team of qualified and talented textile designers and engineers, you hire Ms. Gaca to take your concept to the next level and you end up with an amazing, innovative, aesthetically pleasing fabric. Obviously, this is a win/win situation.
